Ruz Beckman has a spirit companion that no one but her can see. This strange dead creature is the only ray of light in Rose's life. At least, that was the case until Agnes Knup, a wealthy young widow, attended one of the sances Rose was participating in, and the two women took a liking to each other. Ruz decides to move in with Agnes and finds herself in a dilapidated mansion where a sick woman wanders the rooms, strange smells fill the air at night, and eerie stone statues stand in the family chapel. And then a murder occurs. Poor, lonely, and showing signs of mental illness, Ruz is the obvious suspect. Her sanity is called into question, and the girl will have to prove whoor whatis responsible for the crime, or she will lose everything she holds dear.
